Joy Moss (Christian Ed. Director)
Joy began her ministry at Fletcher in 2007. She serves as Director of Christian Education and is working toward her Master’s degree in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University leading to ordination as a deacon in the United Methodist Church.
Prior to serving at the church, for 15 years she worked with children with developmental delays as an occupational therapist.
Joy’s dear son, Mark, is in the 4th grade at Fairview Elementary School. When Joy is not spending time with him, or studying for classes, she enjoys knitting, hiking, watching Carolina basketball and spending time with friends. She is also passionate about outreach ministries and getting others involved, with particular interest in working with those who are hungry and homeless. She serves on the board at Haywood Street Congregation, a United Methodist mission church that ministers with the homeless. She’s also picking up her trumpet again after many years so she can play some duets with Pastor Ray!
Maribeth Hockey (Secretary)
a native of Rochester, New York, met and married her husband, Robert, in 1977. Although having no children of their own, Maribeth & Robert have a niece, Jennifer, who is like a daughter to them and whose children they consider their grandchildren.
Maribeth graduated from Monroe Community College with an Associate of Arts degree and has worked in the business world since then. Her last position was as administrative assistant to the director of classified advertising at the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper, completing over 23 years with the company.
Maribeth and her husband fell in love with Western North Carolina while vacationing in the area and in 2007 she and Robert decided to semi-retire and the decision was made to relocate. Maribeth’s other interests include crocheting, reading and spoiling her dog, Ginger.
Gabe Swinney (Youth Director)
Gabe is a transplant to North Carolina; originally coming from Missouri. He has traveled extensively in the United States. Gabe met his wife Kati on a small island off the southeast coast of Alaska while they both were in school studying Outdoor Leadership at Sheldon Jackson College. Gabe is the proud father of his daughters Ruby and Rosemary.
Gabe has no shortage of enthusiasm for fun and the outdoors; his interests include (but are not limited to) backpacking, swimming-hole swimming, tennis, fishing, trail running, travel, spending time with the Youth, and general adventure. The indoors also hold sway on Gabe, as he is an avid reader of literature, lover of video games, and somewhat of a technology geek.
Gabe’s dream is to one-day backpack the 500 mile Pilgrimage to Santiago across Spain.
Cathy Bashaw (Music Director)
Cathy is married to Lloyd and has two daughters. Susan lives in Conyers, GA with her husband Scott and daughter Kara Ann. Laura lives in Covington with her husband Tyler. Cathy has a background in Music Education as well as Church Music. She was in public education in Georgia for 17 years, taught private piano lessons for 12 years, and has been involved with church music for 40 years.
Cathy has sung in various choruses in the Atlanta area including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Shorter College. Not only does Cathy enjoy music, but she also enjoys attending Broadway shows, traveling, and anything to do with Mickey Mouse.

Jan Kelly (Organist/Pianist)
Jan is a native North Carolinian, raised in the Piedmont . She has a son, David III, two daughters, Carolyn and Crystal, and four granddaughters. She received her undergraduate degree in home economics at Catawba College (Salisbury, North Carolina), her graduate degree at Hood College (Frederick, Maryland) in consumer economics, and her bachelor of music degree at Brevard College where she has been employed as Staff Accompanist of the music department for 13 years. She taught home economics at Concord High School(North Carolina)for five years and at Williamsport High School (Maryland) for eight years.
She has lived in Hagerstown, Maryland and Newton, North Carolina prior to moving with her minister husband, David Jr. , to Hendersonville 20 years ago. She directed handbells in each location aforementioned and was director of the Saint James Handbell Choir and the Blue Ridge Ringers in Hendersonville. She has served as organist/pianist of Fletcher United Methodist Church since October of 2001 and enjoyed it immensely. Her hobbies are spending time with her retired husband, reading, watching movies, fashion, and being with her granddaughters .
Cathy Nabor (Treasurer)
Cathy has been a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church for four years. As a lifelong resident of this area, she attended Biltmore and Mills River United Methodist churches. The difference is that FUMC is home! Cathy and her husband Jim have been married for eleven years and have three wonderful boys, Riley, 9; and the twins, Reese and Ross, age four. Cathy graduates from UNC Asheville in 1991 and earned an MBA from Western Carolina University in 1994. Cathy was employed for 12 years with Bank of America until she "retired" to care for her boys in 1995 .
Since April 2009, Cathy has been the Treasurer and Bookkeeper for our church.
The Naber family enjoys many activities ands interests. they like to fill their summers taking "weekend getaways" to the beach. They also love to gathers the kids and the dog and go camping.
Cathy loves being part of the family and staff of Fletcher UMC. Its a wonderful way to get to know this church family!
Patty Howell (Preschool Director)
Patty Howell joined the Staff at SonShine Preschool in 1996 as a four year old class teacher. She has been the school's director since 2006. Born and raised in Henderson County, Patty and her husband Leonard have three children, Laura, Jeff and Jonathan and are expecting their first grandchild.
They are members of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Patty has a degree in Business and Early Childhood Education. They enjoy fishing, gardening and motorcycle riding.
